sez: Thr3e is worth a see
Thr3e
(PG-13)
Marc Blucas, Justine Waddell, Laura Jordan
The Plot:
Seminary student Kevin Parson (Blucas) finds himself the target
of a homicidal maniac that rigs bombs, taunts his victims with riddles
and gives them impossible timelines within which to comply with his demands
before the bomb goes off. After surviving the first attempt on his life,
Kevin is questioned by police profiler and author Jennifer Peters (Justine
Waddell). Peter’s brother was recently killed by the Radio Killer, a serial
murderer who now seems to be stalking Kevin.
As it turns out the killer is asking Kevin to “confess his sin”
a request that leads Kevin to reveal that the killer may be a childhood
bully that Kevin left for dead.
Soon Kevin, Jennifer and Kevin’s childhood sweetheart Samantha
(Laura Jordan) are all mixed up in the killer’s psychotic plot and must
find a way to answer his riddles before one of them dies.
The Point:
You may not recognize many of the actors in Thr3e but don’t let
that stop you from giving it a fair look. There’s a good movie here if
you can just navigate a few shortcomings.
Part of Kevin’s backstory is that a young, orphaned Kevin was
sent to live with his eccentric aunt Belinda. In fact, to call Belinda
“eccentric” is an understatement on the proportions of calling the late
Saddam Hussein “unkind.” This lady is nuts and Priscilla Barnes, the actress
who portrayed Belinda, brought the crazy big time.
Some of the early gags that forced interaction with Belinda
didn’t seem to gel. Also Belinda’s eccentricities often seem to cause logical
problems that challenge suspension of disbelief.
If you’re into this sort of thing Thr3e contains a ton of Easter
eggs that involve the number three.
Thr3e can be a little distracting at first, but underneath it
lies a decent mystery with a neat twist.
