December 5 - The Millbrook Spirit of Christmas Committee will hold an official Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony at Village Green Park at 6pm. Enjoy holiday music, hot cocoa and family fun.
December 7 - The City of Millbrook and Millbrook Spirit of Christmas committee will hold the annual Spirit of Christmas Festival and Parade in Village Green Park from 9am -4pm. The Christmas Parade will begin at Noon on Main Street.
The theme for this year's parade is “A Green “Recycled” Christmas”. The Grand Marshal(s) of this year’s parade will be chosen from nominations from the public of avid “Recyclers”. Please send your nominations to: Spirit of Christmas, PO Box 327, Millbrook, Al 36054. The Spirit of Christmas Committee hopes that you will use your imagination and reuse, recycle, and go green when decorating your float for this year’s Christmas parade. We look forward to seeing all of your entries and how creative you can be. We also hope that you can take some of the “green” tips and recycle in your everyday life such as buying a live tree and planting it after Christmas
The parade will begin at the Mill Creek Sports Complex behind Smokehouse Bar-B-Que and will end at the intersection at City Hall. There is no charge for Parade entries. Judges will view the floats and awards will be presented to the winners in the following categories: Best Representation of Theme, and 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners in Schools, Churches, Clubs, and Businesses. Santa and Mrs. Claus will be riding on Santa's sleigh. Festival booths are available for arts & crafts, food, and other items, contact Celie Allen for more information. December 7 - Before you head out to the Millbrook Spirit of Christmas Parade and Festival come by the YMCA and have Breakfast with Santa! The YMCA will host their third annual "Breakfast with Santa" on Saturday, December 7 at the Grandview Family YMCA in Millbrook. Breakfast begins at 8:00 am, children's activities begin at 8:30 am, and Santa Claus arrives at 9:00 am. This annual event is sure to put you in the holiday spirit. Tickets for this event are only $5 and include breakfast, an ornament craft, and a picture with Santa. Tickets must be purchased in advance at the Grandview Family YMCA. December 9 - 13 - Alabama Wildlife Federation "Christmas at Lanark" - Read a holiday story, play reindeer games, enjoy a Candy Cane Hike and sit in Santa's lap. Designed for children 3-7 years old and their parents and teachers. Ideal for church groups, daycares, preschools and elementary schools. Choose from two half-day sessions; 9:00 am – 11:00 am or 12:00 noon – 2:00 pm. Bring your own lunch and have a picnic under the ANC pavilion. Cost is $6 per participant. December 11 - ARSEA (Alabama Retired State Employee Association) will meet December 11, 2013 at 3pm at TrustMark Bank Guest Speaker will be Mr. Teb Bugay - CEO Rehabilitation Center - Wetumpka, AL
December 15 - Brookside Funeral Home annual candlelight memorial service will be held on December 15, 2013 at 2 p.m. at the funeral home. Please bring ornament with loved ones name on it and place on our trees. Refreshments will follow service.
December 21 - The community is invited to a Christmas Cantata, "In All of His Glory," at Millbrook Presbyterian Church (PCA) on Saturday, December 21, at 7:00pm. A reception will follow. December 21 - 22 - What do you want for Christmas? Let Santa know at the second annual "Christmas at the Alabama Nature Center." Make your own Christmas candy over the fireplace in the Lanark Pavilion, or create your own hand-made Christmas decorations from native Alabama plants! While it might not be cold enough for a sleigh in Alabama, kids and adults can enjoy a holiday hayride with Santa and his elves.
December 24 - The community is invited to a Christmas Eve Communion and Candlelight Service at Millbrook Presbyterian Church (PCA) on Tuesday, December 24, at 5:30pm. Nursery is provided.
