January 10 - The next Elmore County Cleanup Day will be January 10, 2015 from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at the old Sweeten School on Ingram Road just north of Myrick Road. January 17 - The next City of Millbrook Cleanup Day will be January 17, 2015 from 7:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon. Waste Management will have trucks located at City Hall for your convenience. This is an opportunity to get rid of your holiday items as well as bulky items in your attic, storage shed and yard. Household and yard trash will be accepted. No flammable or toxic materials such as paint, oils, appliances containing freon, etc. will be accepted. Call Millbrook City Hall 285-6428 for additional information.
January 17-18 - The Alabama Nature Center "Go Hike" General Public Weekend will be January 17-18, 2015. During any ANC General Public Weekend, you can enjoy hiking five miles of scenic ANC trails while learning about the fascinating natural history of central Alabama. From distinguishing between a white oak and a red oak to observing the natural processes of a seasonal pond, you get more than just a walk in the woods when you pause to study the interpretive signs along the trails. From ponds and creeks to forests and fields, you can always find some kind of new life waiting around the next trail bend. February 3 – The next application deadline for free Certified Nursing Assistant training provided by the City of Millbrook and Trenholm State Technical College is February 3, 2015 for course dates February 17 – March 19. Are you interested in becoming a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) at NO COST to you? The City of Millbrook in conjunction with Trenholm State Technical College will continue to offer a CNA training program that is funded by a grant from the Governor's Office of Workforce Development of the State of Alabama. NO FEES, NO COSTS to the students. The 5-week course is free; it includes books, course materials and the fee for the certification test. Applications and additional information are available at the Millbrook Economic Development Office or City Hall. Qualified applicants must meet the following requirements: be a resident of the Millbrook area, have a High School Diploma or GED, pass a drug screen and TB skin test, keep 90% attendance for the entire 5 week program, and pass the 5 week-program and the state exam to become certified. Please be advised that NOT ALL APPLICATIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED. A selection committee will review the applications and the accepted students will be notified. February 7 - Millbrook Mardi Gras Parade and Festival will be Feb. 7th at the Village Green Park in Millbrook. Over 60 vendors from all over the South with lots of different food and fun for everyone. The festival begins at 9a.m. with the parade starting at NOON sharp. Anyone can enter into the parade: just go to www.millbrookrevelers.org for entry information.
Second and Fourth Tuesdays - The Millbrook City Council meets in the Municipal Courtroom The City Council meets the second or fourth Tuesday of each month in the Judicial Complex located at 3821 Grandview Road at 6:00 p.m. Work session normally begins at 5:30 p.m. Meeting updates will be posted here as they become available.
Second and Fourth Thursdays - The Millbrook Men's Club meets the second and fourth Thursday of each month at the Millbrook Memorial Center (behind Millbrook Library on Grandview Road). The club is open to interested men who live in the Millbrook area. The club raises money through a pair of annual barbecues to support local park improvements, city ammenities, youth scholarships, scouting troops and other improvements in Millbrook. The club meets for social time at 6:30pm with the business meeting at 7pm.
Thursdays - The Elmore County Extension Offices offers FREE Basic Parenting lessons each Thursday from 1pm-2:30pm. Program covers child development, protective factors, appropriate discipline, communication, and stress management. Relayers, cancer survivors (anyone who has ever been diagnosed with cancer), community leaders, team captains and hard workers are all needed to help plan the American Cancer Society Relay For Life. We will be Kicking Off our 2015 event for the American Cancer Society Relay For Life of Millbrook on January 26th at 5:30 pm, at the Millbrook Community Center Building. At this time we will begin planning the event designed to raise funds and awareness of the fight against cancer.Read more...
