March 1 - The Millbrook C.I.A. (Community Improvement Association) will host a camp stew fundraiser on Sat. March. 1, 2014. Orders can be placed with any C.I.A. member or board member. You may also call the school (334) 285-3227, Bertha Brown(334) 285-4960 or Bessie Jones (334) 285-148 to place your order. Prices per quart of stew is $10.00 Please pick up your orders at the Sandtown School 3180 Sandtown Rd. on March 1, 2014.
March 8 - Miss Millbrook "Pageant with a Purpose" Saturday, March 8, 2014 3:00 pm, Millbrook Civic Center Contestants: 10-12 graders from Tri-Community area. Apply early only limited applications can be accepted due to size of venue Register: Now until February 13 Hosted by the Millbrook Civic Club Applications, tickets and additional information are available at the Millbrook Area Chamber of Commerce (285-0085). Local businesses and individuals are encouraged to sponsor a teen and to show support by placing an ad in the event program. Hosted by the Millbrook Civic Club, the event proceeds will be returned to the community to local schools, the fire department and library, and to a high school graduating senior as a $1,000 textbook scholarship.
March 8 - The Countywide Cleanup Day will be March 8, 2014 from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. The cleanup is sponsored by the Elmore County Commission and Advanced Disposal. Elmore County residents are invited to bring all household and lawn trash to the Old Sweetening School area on Ingram Road/County Road 3 just north of Myrick Road. All tree limbs must be no longer than four feet and no more than six inches in diameter. Sorry, no contractors, the cleanup is for residents only. Items that will not be accepted: appliances, batteries, paints or thinners, oils or gases.
March 12 - Regional Alabama Cooperative Extension Systems Agent Mallory Kelly will share ideas and information on Garden Design at the monthly Central Alabama Master Gardener (CAMGA) 'Lunch & Learn' meeting on Wednesday, March 12th. Open to the public, the 'Lunch & Learn' programs are held at the Elmore County Extension (ACES) facility on Queen Ann Road in Wetumpka. The free 'L&L' will begin at noon and end at 1pm. Attendees are invited to bring their lunch and learn more about gardening in the River Region. Beverages are provided by CAMGA. Kelly will cover 'Right Plant, Right Place', plant selection and spacing, esthetic garden design tips and more. The CAMGA 'Lunch & Learn' programs for the public began in early 2012 on the second Wednesday of each month. From 30-50 attendees have made these 'L&L's a monthly event. Additional subjects for 2014 include: Annuals & Perennials; Hydrangeas; Attracting Butterflies to the Garden; 'Worms, Eat My Garbage – Composting and Vermiculture and more. March 15 – 16 - AWF GO Fish Weekend -Enjoy catch and release fishing for catfish and bream in the Upper pond, or bass and bream in the Bullfrog pond. A limited number of fishing poles will be available for $2 a day as well as a limited amount of bait for a small fee. All visitors of the ANC must check in at the Pavilion Outpost located inside the Lanark Pavilion before hiking on the trails or participating in weekend activities. Merchandise such as t-shirts, caps, bracelets, cooler bags, water, soft drinks, and snacks will be available for purchase in the pavilion. March 24-28 - The Elmore County Public Schools Spring Break will be March 24-28 , 2014.
March 24-28 - The Alabama Wild life Federation will host their Spring Break Camp at the Alabama Nature Center March 24-28, 2014. Would you like to spend your spring break exploring the world of nature at the ANC? Campers from 6 – 15 years of age will fish, hike, canoe, play games, create nature crafts, and probe the forest floor for subterranean inhabitants. The camp will be open from 9 am to 2 pm each day with aftercare available. Additional information is available on their web site, www.alabamawildlife.org or call 285-4550.
March 29 - The next City of Millbrook Cleanup Day will be March 29, 2014 from 7:00 a.m. until noon. Waste Management will have trucks located at City Hall for your convenience. This is an opportunity to get rid of bulky items in your attic, storage shed and yard. Household and yard trash will be accepted. No flammable or toxic materials such as paint, oils, appliances containing freon, etc. will be accepted. Call Millbrook City Hall 285-6428 for additional information.
April 4- 5 - The City of Millbrook and Elmore County are proud to again host the Bass Pro Shops Crappie Masters Final Leg of the Alabama State Championship and National Qualifier Tournament April 4-5, 2014. The entire community welcomes Crappie Masters to the area and is committed to make the Alabama tournament an enjoyable experience for everyone. For those who are planning a trip to Millbrook and for those who are longtime residents, expect an exciting time. "Weigh-Ins" will be at Mill Creek Sports Complex. The winner of the Alabama tournament will qualify to compete in the Bass Pro Shops National Crappie Masters Championship Tournament. The schedule of events, registration forms, and other information are available on their web site www.crappiemasters.net.
April 12 - AWF Alabama Flora and Fauna Arts Festival Enjoy nature at its best at the 10th Annual Alabama Flora and Fauna Arts Festival at Lanark on Saturday, April 12, 2014. This artistic celebration of Alabama's magnificent plants and wildlife will feature the original nature-themed works of Alabama artists in a variety of mediums and styles, to include ready-to hang wildlife and floral paintings, wood and stone sculpted items, fine prints, gourd art, photography and much more! The Alabama Flora and Fauna Arts Festival is a juried event that is free and open to the general public on Saturday, April 12, 2014 from 8 am to 6 pm. Only fine art and fine crafts will be exhibited at this event. Festival Day will also include plant presentations with guest speakers, vendors and the annual plant sale; proceeds benefiting the Lanark Gardens. Master Gardeners from various counties will have information tables, and there will be activities for the children. After you have been all-inspired at the Festival, hike the trails and enjoy beautiful flowers and nature's splendor, April 12 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Although the Festival is only a one day event, the Alabama Nature Center will be open to the general public Sunday, April 13 from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.
