|King George or Adolph. Who is in charge?|

"I never submitted the whole system of my opinions to the creed of any party of men whatever, in religion, in philosophy, in politics, or in anything else, where I was capable of thinking for myself. If I could not go to heaven but with a party, I would not go there at all." --Thomas Jefferson
Over the weekend I received information related to the upcoming Alabama Republican Party Executive Committee meeting, which is to take place in Montgomery this Saturday. I have several friends on that committee that always "run some things past me" just to get what may be an unbiased opinion as to what their party is doing. These friends are those I consider to be people searching for the truth and do not wish to be "told what to think or what to do" fearing that such will lead to the destruction of much we all hold dear...such as our nation. I guess the reason I get asked about this stuff is that my friends know that I am and will never be a member of any political party because I sincerely believe they all are to be distrusted and seek power only for the party and those that serve as its leaders. When it comes to the Republican and Democratic parties I always try to keep my distance from both because, as I have said before, the Democrats want to take away my money and the Republicans want to take away my rights.
I reviewed the material they sent me and other than one thing didn't see a great deal that surprised me as far as the Alabama GOP is concerned. However, the one thing that stood out is a proposed change to the organization's by-laws. Once I saw this my first thought is that either King George III or Hitler has taken over the GOP here in Alabama. I can't say that I would be surprised if it were true.
The proposed by-law change that I read that was sent to the Executive Committee membership in advance simply stated that if a member of the Steering Committee publicly advocates a position different than the platform adopted by the Republican National Convention then that person shall be removed for such advocacy. And, if you want to be back on the committee after such a terrible thing then you must publicly rescind your statement, which of course means you need to be publicly humiliated to get back in line.
Wow! If you are going to be a big shot Republican you better not have a brain. Hell, you may have a different viewpoint than the Mafioso bosses that run the show and they will get you! My God, I would never have thought the party of Jefferson and Lincoln would ever resort to such. No wonder the Alabama State House is run the way it is. I see now why our State House is done "our way or the highway," and if you have another opinion it is just too bad. Nothing, including the representation of the people and free thought, is acceptable in our legislative home unless it is sanctioned by a power hungry leadership. Perhaps the next thing we will see is the Republicans doing a Goose-Step when they file in for the next session.
The parties are not subject to laws that we expect our government to follow, such the First Amendment and Freedom of Speech. One of my Republican friends told me he felt like his rights to speak freely about government were being taken away. I told him they were taken away by his party if he wanted to be a member of that party. Of course I then asked him if he felt he should trust this party to run his government he is paying for. "Doesn't it stand to reason," I asked him, "that if they think of doing this to you as a party member, they will do this to anyone once they have government powers to enforce their position?"
He is obviously disturbed by my question. He has yet to answer.
