|Sprucing up the schoolhouse|

As children and teachers prepared to return to school this year, parents did their share as well. Six parents of Airport Road Intermediate School students worked with purpose to transform overgrown shrubery and curbing into a neat edged lawn to welcome the students back.

ARIS principal Marcia Stephens and assistant principal Sharon Earl marveled at the work and said they received many positive comments from parents about how well the grounds looked on the first day of school.
"Parents could not help but notice the edged lawn, trimmed bushes and shrubs, and mowed grass. Their children and all ARIS students should benefit from their example," said Irene Wong, school counselor.
She added that knowing parents are willing to lend a hand before the school year even starts is hopefully a good sign of the year to come.

Supreme Court Justice concerned about civics education

A few weeks ago Alabama Supreme Court Justice Jim Main (pictured right) spoke to students at the Jones School of Law at Faulkner University. In addition to reviewing the diversity of the Alabama Supreme Court, Main stressed the importance of civics education in our schools and the importance of promoting civics by the soon to be lawyers.Read more...
The Spirit of Christmas Committee invites the public to the annual Christmas Tree Lighting and the Christmas Festival & Parade Saturday, December 6. The Annual Tree Lighting will be held at Village Green Park Thursday, December 3 from 6 to 7 p.m. There will be live music and concessions and the park will be adorned with new and newly refurbished lighting.Read more...
