The normal crowd for the Millbrook Men's Club Labor Day BBQ seemed to have slept in on Monday. The lines were slow to form this year leaving many members wondering what would they do with all of the stew if it did not sell.
There was quite a bit of the club's "world famous" camp stew leftover after the group's Independence Day BBQ on July 4th. The group donated that stew to the West Elmore Christian Outreach Mission Extension (W.E.L.C.O.M.E.).
"We had several times where we had stew leftover only to have our freezer quit. We have had to throw it out when that has happend," said Jon Foshee.
The MMC uses the pair of annual barbecues to raise money for local clubs, youth scholarships and community projects. The club, which predates the incorporation of the city by more than 3 decades, has been responsible for making many improvements to the area including: telephone service, volunteer fire service, ammenities to city parks, and much more. Their efforts are funded almost entirely by the barbecue sales.
