In the world of football it doesn't take long for things to swing in the other direction. Take the case of first year head coach Brad Porter of East Memorial Christian Academy (EMCA). In the first week of the season EMCA defeated Springwood Academy and Porter had his first ever win as a head coach. All the joy and happiness of that first game went out the window when the Wildcats faced the Restoration Academy Bulldogs in their second game of the season last Thursday night. Restoration is the defending AISA State Champions of Class A. EMCA is in Class AA.
The Bulldogs scored in their first 3 possessions of the game and in 5 of their first 6 possessions. A fumble recovered by the Wildcats stopped one of Restoration's drives in the second quarter. By the time the first half was over EMCA had accumulated a couple of first downs and was behind 33-0 on the scoreboard. The Wildcats kept Restoration from running up the score in the second half and the game ended 39-0 in favor of the Bulldogs. Johnny Moore and Hunter Buce combined for 22 tackles for the Wildcats.
"We hoped to bring momentum into the game with Restoration but we struggled on both sides of the ball. Looking ahead and preparing for our next opponent is the most important thing we can do. We got off to a good start in the region and we need to continue that trend," Porter said.
The Wildcats are 1-1 for the season and will host Autauga Academy on September 13 in a region contest.
