After seven months of public input and deliberations the Millbrook Traffic Control Committee is finalizing their plans to propose changes to the city's traffic ordinance that dictates speed limits and truck routes on city streets.
During their September 10 meeting following the Millbrook City Council meeting the committee wrapped their recomendations for speed limit changes.
The following schanges have been recommended:
• 25 to 35 mph: Browns Rd, Chapman Rd, Rosehill Rd (from Main St west to Grandview Rd)
• 35 to 45 mph: Main St (from Rosehill Rd south to Coosada Rd); Main St (from Woodland Dr south to city limit)
• 45 to 55 mph: Cobbs Ford Rd (within city limits)
Highway 14 and Camp Grandview Rd were proposed for speed limit changes, but not recommended by the committee. Councilman Earle Monroe, who chairs the committee, said that residents on Camp Grandview Road made it clear through the process they were not interested in seeing the speed limit raised.
"This meeting wraps up the deliberative phase of traffic studies and the committee will now work on revisions to the current traffic ordinance. After seven months of discussion the public has had ample opportunity for input/feedback on committee studies. All of the streets and limits studied have been the direct result of citizen requests," Monroe said.
Monroe says he expects to have a final proposal ready to present to the Millbrook City Council by the last October meeting (October 22, 2013). The council is expected to have at least two public readings of the ordinance before a vote is taken.
