It was a normal margin of victory of the year for the Edgewood Wildcats. The team that has now won 36 games in a row toppled Glenwood on the road last week 47-14. Of course Edgewood coach Bobby Carr sat his starters in the second half so younger players could gain experience. The score at halftime was 47-7.

Wildcats quarterback Taylor Hawthorne was 14-of-19 passing for 224 yards and four touchdowns. For touchdowns Hawthorne connected with Heath Young twice, and once each to Keith Johnson and Josh Crawford. In the rushing department Crawford ran for 118 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

Edgewood may have won in a rout, but Glenwood is probably the best team the Wildcats have faced all year. Carr's explanation of the victory may support that assessment when he said, "It is by far the best we have played on both sides of the ball all year long. No doubt in my mind. We executed extremely well," Carr stated after the game.

Edgewood lost 16 seniors to graduation and had only two starters returning on offense and a trio on defense. In the early part of the year Carr was concerned about his team and their performances, but he did say that he fully expected the Wildcats to be much better by the time the middle of the season rolled around. Based upon their performance against Glenwood the top Wildcat was correct.

"You learn more in terms of experience in a game than you do in practice. And that is what I was hoping for and felt it would come. This was our fifth game and I am now seeing what I hoped for. We have also been hampered with injuries and we have dodged a bullet in that regard," Carr said. "Now, next week. Everybody will be in uniform. We will be at full strength."

And the Wildcats will need full strength. Glenwood may have been the toughest team Edgewood has faced thus far but that will change this week as the Wildcats go to Autauga Academy. The Generals are probably the only region opponent that has any chance of beating Edgewood. Autauga comes off an overtime loss to Ft. Dale, which is in a higher classification that Ft. Dale or Edgewood. It has been a most unpleasant experience for the Generals the last two times they have faced Edgewood. The Wildcats have whipped them by a combined score of 99-6.

"Autauga has good lineman and they will be tough. They have a lot of motivation to beat us and they will have a good game plan. It should be a great game for the fans," Carr said.
