The Millbrook Spirit of Christmas Committee has been meeting for weeks now, preparing for the annual Christmas celebration.
The annual Tree Lighting ceremony will be held at Village Green on December 5 at 6 p.m. Prior to the lighting, there will be several groups entertaining and local organizations will be selling hot chocolate and snacks.
The Christmas parade will be December 7 at 2 p.m. The theme for this year is "A Green 'Recycled' Christmas" and organizers encourage those having floats to use recyclable items in their decorations, and be creative. It is also hoped that more entries this year will include music on their float.
"We are excited about this year's theme and hope everyone will get into the 'Green' spirit," Kathy Kelley, chairwoman for the committee, said. "There will be Arts & Crafts and food vendors in the park on parade day from 10 - 4. Santa and Mrs. Claus will be in the Gazebo and available for pictures from 11-1.
"We try to choose our Grand Marshal(s) to tie in with our theme. We are asking for your help in selecting our Grand Marshal(s) this year. Please send in nominations of people that you know that are avid recyclers. Tell us a little about them and include their name and a number to reach them. You can mail them to me at PO BOX 327, Millbrook, Al., 36054."
Registration forms for the Parade and for arts & crafts & food vendors are available at City Hall and at Kelley Accounting. They are also available online on the City of Millbrook website and the Millbrook Area Chamber of Commerce website.
Preparations for the holiday have already begun with city workers diligently checking lights and other items used for Christmas at Village Green and around the city. Problems with light poles have been addressed and Rollinson Electric has been called upon to replace the old and outdated plugs. Their efforts should ensure that all lights are working this season, and will be for years to come.
