Members of Elmore County's legislative delegation recently visited each school campus in the county to confer with school and central office leaders about the school's progress and needs. The "Learning with Legislators" program gives nearly every school in the county a chance to visit with at least one member of the legislature.
Beckman, Andre Harrison - Deputy Superintendent, and Temeyra McElrath - Compliance Coordinator toured Coosada Elementary, Airport Road Intermediate, and Millbrook Middle Schools. There Beckman heard about the needs of the schools directly from the principals and administrators.
Suzanne Goodin told Beckman that the pace of consumer technology is moving faster than that of schools in many cases.
"We have students that walk up to a regular computer monitor and touch it to try and move the images around. Of course it does not work, but they already have some of the basic concepts of technology in kindergarten," Goodin said.
Beckman said he found the visits informative and was pleased to sit in and watch schoolchildren hard at work on their studies. Beckman's colleages Rep. Greg Wren and Sen. Dick Brewbaker visited other schools in the county.
