Edgewood Academy extended its undefeated season to 12-0 with a first playoff round thumping of South Choctaw Academy 45-6. Other than a first quarter touchdown, the Rebels could not penetrate the Edgewood defense and could not stop the Wildcats offense. Josh Crawford scored 4 touchdowns for the Wildcats and gained 197 yards. Jake Sisson added another touchdown on the ground and picked up 63 yards on 7 carries.
The Edgewood line got in on the scoring. In the third quarter Crawford fumbled on a one yard run just before reaching the goal line. The ball was loose and offensive tackle Trey Gothard pounced on the pigskin in the Rebels end zone for another Wildcats score. Quarterback Taylor Hawthorne continues to improve after recovering from an injury and completed 5 passes for 112 yards.
The Wildcats have now won 43 games in a row and look to tie the AISA record next week in the semi-final round. Edgewood will host Wilcox Academy, who easily whipped Coosa Valley Friday night 37-14. Wilcox is 9-2 for the season. The winner of the Edgewood -Wilcox game will face the winner of the Patrician Academy - Clarke Prep game at Troy University on November 22.
