The Stanhope Elmore wrestling team won a dual match last week defeating Holtville and Jeff Davis by identical 48-27 scores. The match was held at Holtville. "It was a good start to the season and I was happy with the outcome." Mustangs wrestling coach Brian Bradford said. "Holtville always has a good team and Jeff Davis has built a very strong program over the last few years."
In the match with Jeff Davis, T.J. Burke (126 pounds), Brandon Householder (145 pounuds) and Griff Perry (160 pounds) all won by pin.
In the match with Holtville, Ty Naquin (106 pounds), Charles Truitt (113 pounds) and Burke won their matches by pin.
The Mustangs will be much younger than in the past couple of years. Another obstacle is that the team lost two returning starters, one due to a football injury and the other due to illness. "It may have a bearing on us being able to fill all weight classes. Right now it looks like we will miss filling one class," Bradford said.
