Representative Greg Wren Elected President of National Insurance Organization

gregwrenAlabama State Rep. Greg Wren (R-Montgomery - pictured) was elected President of the National Conference of Insurance Legislators (NCOIL) during the organization's recent annual meeting in Nashville, TN.

NCOIL is the voice of the nation's fifty states on a complex array of insurance issues including protecting the state system of insurance from federal and international preemption, coastal and flood insurance, property and casualty issues, worker's compensation and unemployment compensation initiatives, unclaimed property legislation and health care issues.

"I am honored to have been elected as President of the National Conference of Insurance Legislators during a watershed period in Alabama and the nation's insurance marketplace. Every Alabamian, every U.S. citizen, is impacted by decisions made through state legislatures and insurance departments. Protecting consumers and developing initiatives to foster a more robust insurance market are central to the economic growth of our state and nation," Wren said.

NCOIL holds three national meeting each year and conducts dozens of conference calls through the thirteen standing committees and three special task forces led by state legislators from throughout the U.S. Participation within NCOIL also includes the Council of State Governments, National Association of Insurance Commissioners, National Governors Association, National Conference of State Legislatures, National Association of Attorneys General, state banking and securities regulators, consumer organizations, and insurance industry representatives.

"The federal government continues to step up its interest in usurping state insurance authority with far-reaching implications for U.S. consumers. In addition, expanding efforts by international regulatory regimes in the European Union, Far East, and emerging countries such as India and China pose serious threats to our successful 150 year history of state insurance regulation. My role will focus on leading a respected national insurance organization of state legislative leaders to protect all U.S. insurance consumers and the insurance industry from Alabama to Wyoming," Wren added.

Greg Wren currently serves as Vice-Chairman of the Alabama House of Representatives Insurance Committee and has been a financial representative with Northwestern Mutual Life for more than 30 years. Rep. Wren personally pays for all travel to attend all NCOIL meetings each year.
