Elmore County officials broke ground last week on the county's new Elmore County Emergency Operations Center in Wetumpka next to the Elmore County Jail on US Hwy 231.

The Elmore County Commission, in coordination with the Elmore County Emergency Management Agency & Homeland Security (EMA/HS) Office, Elmore County Sheriff's Office (ECSO), and Elmore County E 9-1-1, hosted the Official Groundbreaking Ceremony of the new Elmore County Emergency Operations Center. The groundbreaking ceremony marks the end of the planning & design phase and beginning of the estimated 14-month construction phase.

The hardened facility will house the administrative offices of the EMA/HS Office and E 9-1-1, and the ECSO Dispatch. The facility is designed to sustain prolonged periods of 24-hour Emergency Operations Center activations by supporting multiple personnel with the resources during times of protracted emergencies and disasters.
