Stanhope Elmore wrestlers hosted a dual match last week with Holtville and Auburn coming to town. The Mustangs whipped Holtville 51-27. Mustangs winning by pin were Travis Gartman (132 pounds), Brandon Householder (138 pounds) and Kip Willis (285 pounds).
The Mustangs didn't fare as well against Auburn and dropped the match 44-24. The Mustangs winning by pin were T.J. Burke (120 pounds) and Charlie Stephens (160 pounds).
The team traveled to Alabaster on Friday and participated in the Thompson High School Tournament over the weekend.
It was a tough two days for the Mustangs. In the first day of the tournament Stanhope went 0-5 and was defeated by Chelsea, Tuscaloosa County, Thompson, Spain Park and James Clemons.
But Saturday was much better as the Mustangs went 5-0 and bested Pell City, Northridge, Pelham, Gulf Breeze (Florida) and Thompson.
Several individual Mustangs had exemplary performances over the weekend, all going 9-1 for the 10 matches: T.J. Burke, Ty Naquin, Harry Walker and Travis Gartman.
