Millbrook and surrounding areas were frozen solid for a few days last week in what one official dubbed "Snowmeggdon 2014." For more reader photos from the storm check out our Facebook page "Millbrook Independent-AL."
A winter storm caused a frustrating change in the routine for many in the area last week as snow and ice made road travel hazardous. Elmore County, along with many other counties in the affected areas of the state, cancelled school for three days last week. When school is cancelled it typically has residual labor shortages for businesses as parents often have to stay home to watch children.
Jeff Langham, Superintendent of Elmore County public schools thanked the Elmore County EMA for their help.
"I would like to take this opportunity to say a big thank you to our Elmore County Emergency Management Agency and the extraordinary assistance provided to our school district by EMA Director Eric Jones and his teammates David Brunson and Kim Trost during Snowmeggdon 2014," Langham said.
In Millbrook Fire Chief Larry Brown said that there where no significant problems outside the norm during the storm.
"Our worst areas in terms of road hazards were the hill on Deatsville Highway. We had a fire truck that went sideways on that road. Also the area in front of Wal-Mart down to Entec was pretty slippery," Brown said.
A great many people relaxed during the snow showers and played in the snow afterwards. The Millbrook Independent asked readers to contribute photos of the snow to Facebook and many responded. Check out our Facebook page (Millbrook Independent -AL) for more photos.

Representative Mike Holmes donated $5,000 to the Elmore County Public School System. He presented the check earlier this week. Judy Caton, Public Information Officer for Elmore County Schools said Holmes contributed the money from his legislative discretionary funds.
