Edgewood Academy survived a close call in the first game of the week when the Wildcats slipped past Lowndes Academy 6-5. But after that the Wildcats pretty much had their own way with their foes. Hunter Glenn continued to swing the bat well and delivered a pair of extra base hits and RBI to lead the charge against Lowndes. Caleb Sullivan started for the Wildcats and gave up only one hit in nearly 4 innings of work.

The Wildcats traveled to Autauga Academy next and the team leader, Taylor Hawthorne, popped 2 home runs in the 9-1 victory. The Wildcats scored 6 runs in the first three innings. Christian Smith added some more fireworks early in the game with a 2 run double. David Cayton added 3 hits for the Wildcats. Chase Laney was tremendous on the mound surrendering only one hit in 5 innings of work.

Edgewood played the next 4 games in Selma at a big "Round Robin" event hosted by Morgan Academy. The Wildcats exhibited an all-around effort in defeating Marengo Academy 7-0. Smith was a perfect 3 for 3 at the plate and pitched 6 innings of scoreless ball and fanned 6 Longhorns. Heath Young and W.B. Hill collected a pair of hits each.

The Wildcats faced Monroe Academy and handed that foe a 7-3 defeat. Once again it was Hawthorne, who knocked in 3 runs, which included a home run in the fourth inning. Glenn slapped an RBI triple in the same inning. Young took the honors on the mound by fanning 5 batters and giving up 6 hits in nearly 6 innings of work. Laney picked up the save.

Next up for the Wildcats was South Choctaw Academy. Edgewood had no trouble in defeated its opponent, 12-3. The Wildcats scored a handful of runs in the sixth inning on an RBI single by Jon Johnson, a sacrifice fly by Hawthorne, a two-run double by Young. Cayton also swung a hot bat going 2-4. Hunter Elliott recorded the win and allowed only three runs with 5 innings on the hill.

The Wildcats had to work a little harder against Clarke Prep but they got the job done by a score of 4-2. Once again, it was Hawthorne to pull the heavy weight. The senior drove home 2 of Edgewood's runs including a triple in the fifth inning. On the mound, Hawthorne gave up just one hit, allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out four during his 1 2/3 innings of work. But the winning pitcher was Caleb Sullivan, who was the top hurler for the Wildcats during the week.

Edgewood was undefeated for the week with 6 wins and extended its 2014 record to 9-2.

"A good week. We hit the ball well and pitched well. I am encouraged to see so many of our younger players contribute. That always sends bright message for the future," Edgewood coach Bobby Carr said.
