Local schools recently took part in 'Read Across America' Day to celebrate and appreciate the joy of reading. The Read Across America program is coordinated to be a school day on or near March 2 - the birthday of the late children's author Theodor Seuss Geisel, better known as Dr. Seuss.

Schools across the country invite guest readers to visit with a class and read one or more of Seuss' classics. A parent made a special birthday cake at EMCA the students in Mrs. Simpkins' Kindergarten class thoroughly appreciated.
