Edgewood's Baseball team was just too much for all comers over the weekend. The Wildcats were undefeated for the week and won the Edgewood Academy Invitational baseball tournament.

Edgewood proved too much for Macon East as the Wildcats routed the Knights 16-1 in a 5 inning game shortened due to the mercy rule. An RBI triple by Taylor Hawthorne, a groundout by Heath Young, a hit by pitch, a 2 run single by Trace Ott in the first inning, an RBI single by Hunter Glenn, an error, and a hit batsman during the second inning supplied the early punch for the Wildcats. Edgewood led 8-1 after the second inning. W.B. Hill racked up three RBIs on three hits. Caleb Sullivan looked sharp on the mound surrendering only two hits and struck out a half dozen in four innings of work. Overall, the Wildcats bashed the Knights pitching for 11 hits in 4 innings at bat.

In their next outing the Wildcats got the best of Monroe Academy after an explosive fifth inning that plated 5 runs. Christian Smith racked up two RBIs on one hit with a single in that inning. The Longhorns had no answer for Jackson Tate, who kept runners off the bases in his appearance. Tate gave up just 3 hits, allowed only one earned run and fanned 4 Longhorns during his five innings of work. Chase Laney put away the final three outs to record the save.

David Cayton led Edgewood to a 7-6 win for over Arlington Country Day School of Florida. Cayton drove in the go-ahead run to give the Wildcats the lead in the sixth inning. Hunter Glenn singled to get on base in the sixth. He then went from first to third on a two-run double by Hill. Laney came in to get the job done once again and this time he was credited with the win after 5 1/3 innings of working.

In the championship game of the tournament Edgewood blasted Autauga Academy 11-1. The Wildcats scored 8 runs in the first three innings. A two-run double by Young in the first inning, a two-run error and a two-run single by Hill in the second inning fueled the Wildcats offense. Hawthorne was brilliant on the mound striking out 11 Autauga Academy batters.

"We've been playing really well and we were tested by Arlington in the semi-final game of the tournament. Our guys overcame some very good pitching and pulled off the win. It was another good week and if we keep this up we should have another fine season," Edgewood coach Bobby Carr said.

The Wildcats no stand at 14-2 for the season.
