|Michael Coppa of SEHS wins the National Merit Award|

Michael Coppa of Stanhope Elmore High School is a winner in the 2014 National Merit Scholarship competition. Chad Walls - SEHS Assistant Principal informed The Indy that Coppa won the scholarship award. The $2,500 scholarship can be used for Coppa's higher education.
Coppa, like millions of other students, qualified for the award based on his score on the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT®) he took as a junior in high school. Now Michael is a Senior at SEHS. He is involved in the school's Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps where he serves as the Delta Company Commander in charge of 31 Cadets.
"Michael sets the example for his cadets on a consistent basis and his leadership style allows for open communication and an effective command climate. Micheal has also been a member of our Academic and Drill Teams," said Wes Whitaker, Senior Army Instructor at SEHS.
Michael is also a member of the National Honor Society, and Science National Honor Society. He volunteers to work in the office at the Millbrook Middle School as well.
Some well known Americans who have received the award in the past include: Ben S. Bernanke Former Chairman, Federal Reserve; Bill Gates Former Chairman, Microsoft Corporation; John Roberts Chief Justice of the United States Supreme Court; Jeff Bezos Chairman and CEO, Amazon.com

Students at Coosada Elementary School check out the new turf on their recess area made of recycled tires. The costly project ($38,000) was made possible thanks to a grant from the Alabama Department of Environmental Management’s Alabama Scrap Tire Fund.

Hello folks. Week #2 is behind us and we start to look forward to another fine weekend. What did we learn from week #2? Auburn has an almost unstoppable offense. Alabama's offense and defense looked much better than last week, but this was against a cup cake team. South Carolina, coming off a 3 TD loss to Texas A&M, almost walked the plank against the East Carolina Pirates, finally winning by only 10 points. South Carolina either has some major problems or they were way overrated. Also, one of my upsets came true as Ohio ST went down against Virginia. Let's take a look at this week's action.Read more...
