For several years churches in the state have been participating in a service project called Great Day of Service. Not just one service project but many, the great Day of Service held on Saturday, March 15 saw dozens of area churches take on many projects to improve their communities.
Locally Millbrook First United Methodist Church and Robinson Springs United Methodist Church took part in projects at Village Green Park, Millbrook Theatre, Autumn Place assisted living, W.E.L.CO.M.E. food bank, Hickory Hill assited living and the community garden at Robinson Springs Church.
Dr. Nathan Attwood, Pastor at MFUMC said that the program as been active for several years with more churches getting involved each year. Last year was MFUMC joined the effort and Attwood said there was a positive feeling among his congregants to stay involved.

"Sometimes it seems that Christians are defined by the ones that are disapproving of others and try to force their beliefs down people's throats. That creates a preconceived idea that all Christians are that way. But Jesus led a life of service, and that is what we are trying to honor. We want to serve, not tell other people how they should live," Attwood said.
More than a dozen United Methodist Churches and some Church of Christ congregations worked together on the project with an estimated 2,000 volunteers from Frazer United Methodist Church in Montgomery. The organizers of the project say they hope the combined effort of thousands of volunteers working in the tri-county area and beyond will have a meaningful impact on the community again this year.

CAPITOL HEIGHTS UMC
