The Stanhope Elmore football team has announced its 2014 schedule.
The Mustangs will start out playing on television as part of the RAYCOM "Champions Challenge." That game will be the opening contest for the season and will be played at Cramton Bowl in Montgomery on a Saturday night with a special 7:30 kickoff.
In the Champions Challenge the Mustangs will face last year's state 5A Champions, Spanish Fort.
In addition to the unusual Saturday opener, the Mustangs will not be limited to Friday action since they will have a pair of games contested on Thursday night. Both of the Thursday games will be at Cramton Bowl as well when the Mustangs face Carver and Park Crossing.
"We have a great schedule for the 2014 season and it is very exciting to start the season by playing on television against the 2013 state 5A Champs," Mustangs head coach Jeff Foshee (pictured) said. "We will be playing many new teams since the AHSAA has added the new larger class. This will give us a chance, along with the other teams in our region, to build a new, solid region of top notch high school football, and that means developing new rivalries. The 2014 season promises to be an exciting one for our team and our fans.
