Between now and May 5th the Grandview Family YMCA will be engaging in one of their biggest organizational challenges of the year, a fundraising campaign called Partners with Youth. Executive Director Bill Myers says this is an important campaign because the funds used will provide scholarships for children and families who cannot afford memberships at the Grandview Family YMCA and their popular summertime day camp.
"At the Grandview Family YMCA no one is turned away from participating because of their inability to pay. Through the annual Partners with Youth Campaign, we give hope by providing scholarships to make character-building programs available to children, teens, and families who cannot otherwise afford a YMCA experience. Last year, the Grandview Family YMCA raised over $56,000 and awarded over $200,000 in scholarships to families in our community," Myers said.
This money helps provide children with experiences many of them have never had before such as horseback riding, canoeing, archery and swimming.
The money raised through the Partners with Youth campaign is mostly, but not entirely, used for day camp. Individuals and families also receive scholarships for memberships to the Grandview Family YMCA, which includes access to facilities in the Montgomery YMCA network, the Prattville YMCA is not part of that network.
"The Grandview Family YMCA strives to help people of all ages, incomes, backgrounds, and abilities," said Myers. "A major emphasis of our YMCA has always been character development, centering on the core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility all under girded by faith. These values help us define what it means to put Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind, and body for all."
The 2014 Campaign Goal is $56,000. The Grandview Family YMCA uses the following programs to fulfill their mission and improve on the character of individuals in our community: fitness training, group exercise, afterschool programs, camping, aquatics, youth sports, family programs, and active older adult programs.
"We at the Grandview Family YMCA look forward to continuing our tradition of youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility," Myers said.
