The Edgewood Academy baseball team begins preparations for the playoffs after defeating Autauga Academy last week 10-1. Chase Laney pitched a complete game struck out 4 and surrendered only 5 hits in an excellent performance. Hunter Glenn got the scoring started in the top of the first inning with a 3 run home run with 2 outs. Glenn finished 2-4 on the day. Taylor Hawthorne also had a 2 run home run and a triple. W.B. Hill slapped 3 hits including a pair of doubles.

The Wildcats now stand at 32-3 for the season and their outstanding record has earned them a bye in the first round of the playoffs. Edgewood has a couple of more regular season games remaining that will have no bearing on the playoff picture. Those games will help the Wildcats keep fine tuned and prepared for the post season. "We are playing well right now so we just need to stay in current form. At practice we will be reviewing fundamentals and going through the routines such as bunt coverage and defensive strategy," Wildcats coach Bobby Carr said. "We've had a great season and we need to continue what we have done."

For the second round, Carr said the Wildcats will face the winner of the Patrician Academy series, which will involve the winner of the Sparta Academy and Meadowview Academy match up.

Mustangs will miss post season

Stanhope Elmore's (SEHS) baseball season ended without a playoff bid. The Mustangs had the misfortune of being in a region with Thompson High School, which many consider the best team in the state. Thompson defeated SEHS 10-0 last Tuesday, effectively halting any playoff opportunity for the Mustangs. The two squared off in Millbrook later in the week and Thompson won both games. The Warriors took the first game 5-2, but had a difficult time winning the second game, 1-0. Tyler Dutton hurled a beauty for the Mustangs giving up only 2 hits in 7 innings. Unfortunately for Dutton, Thompson scored a run in the third inning and the Mustangs failed to give their pitcher any run support.

With one game remaining the Mustangs stand at 10-20 for the season.
