Southern Crappie Cake with Peach Glaze, Grilled Duck with Fig Brandy Sauce and Scott's World Famous But Locally Unknown Venison Rollups were just a few of the tasty dishes found at the Alabama Wildlife Federation / Alabama Army National Guard Tri-County Wild Game Cook-Off and Silent Auction last Thursday, April 24, 2014, at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Course Driving Range in Prattville, Alabama! With 35 cook teams and approximately 1200 members and guests in attendance, The Johnson Crew including Don, Sharon, Dillon & Amber Johnson captured the top prize of "Best Overall," with their scrumptious Catfish Cakes with Remoulade on Dirty Rice.
Alabama Wildlife Federation is proud to have BlackRidge Land Company serve as the lead sponsor of five Cook-Offs to help raise funds and awareness for the conservation of Alabama wildlife and natural resources.
While The Johnson Crew won Best Overall, they certainly weren't the only team serving up good food at the event. Other winners included:
Fish Division: First Place – The Johnson Crew including Don, Sharon, Dillon & Amber Johnson cooking Catfish Cakes with Remoulade on Dirty Rice; Second Place – Co-Op Cut-Ups including Kirk Green, Kevin Powell, Jimmy Sims and Brandon Hart cooking Southern Crappie Cake with Peach Glaze; Third Place – Wildlife Trends Meateaters including Andy Whitaker, Allen Deese, Larry Crisp and Pete Russell cooking Margarita Catfish Tacos.
Fowl Division: First Place – Marshall Design-Grill including Chet Marshall, Andy Davidson, Terry Craft and Travis Marshall cooking Grilled Duck with Fig Brandy Sauce; Second Place – Peppertree Pit Crew including Jeff Verner, John "Mo" Mosely and Drew Bass cooking Duck Cordon Bleu; Third Place – Co-Op Cut-Ups including Kirk Green, Kevin Powell, Jimmy Sims and Brandon Hart cooking Double Barrell Dove.
Game Division: First Place – Alabama Blackbelt Adventures including Philip Davis and Pam Swanner cooking Scott's World Famous But Locally Unknown Venison Rollups; Second Place – Palomar Insurance Corporation including Todd Johnson, Beth Johnson and Bruce Garrett cooking Southern Venison Dip; Third Place – Peppertree Pit Crew including Jeff Verner, John "Mo" Mosely and Drew Bass cooking Venison Meat Loaf Sandwich.
The Alabama Army National Guard People's Choice Award went to Co-Op Cut-Ups. Best Presentation Award went to Alabama Blackbelt Adventures and the Presentation Runner-Up Award went to Exit Hodges Real Estate.
In addition to the great food, there was a silent auction, and entertainment provided by Dr. Sam from Bama County 98.9 WBAM.
