Experimental Aircraft Association #822 welcomed visitors to their annual fly-in at the Wetumpka Airport last weekend. The event is designed to bring in pilots from around the region and beyond to show off their planes with pride.
The event is also a showcase to stimulate interest in general aviation, especially among children. More than 220 children got a free flight around the area as part of the Young Eagles program. The Young Eagles program encourages children ages 8-17 to take a free flight, complete with a basic flight instruction lesson. Many of the children steered the airplanes they were riding in, which pilots say is always a big hit with the youngsters.

In addition to the airplanes ferrying youngsters across the sky, there were several 'static displays' of aircraft including a glider belonging to the local chapter of the Civil Air Patrol. A small fleet of electric and gasoline powered remote control aircraft were also on display. For those too young to ride in the big planes a pair of simulators gave even the youngest eagles a chance to fly.
