The Elmore Volunteer Fire Department hosted the Alabama Antique Tractor Show and Pull in Elmore last weekend. Organizers say the weather and turnout this year was very good. The event, coordinated with the Southern Antique Iron Association, drew hundreds of visitors out to appreciate the antiques on display. In addition to antique tractors, cars, and farm equipment, families enjoyed good food, games for children, horse-drawn carriage rides and tractor races.

There were several friendly competitions going between tractor races including a skillet toss (for ladies), sledgehammer toss (for guys) and pedal tractor races (for little ones).

The event is the primary fundraiser for the Elmore Volunteer Fire Department. Bart Mercer serves on the EVFD board of directors as well as board chairman of the Elmore County Economic Development Authority (ECEDA).

"This event has grown quite a bit over the last nine years, but it has retained the reputation as an enjoyable, family-friendly day of fun and fellowship," Mercer said.

A barbecue cookoff is held each year as part of the competition. With five categories the cookoff has a lot of bragging rights that local cook teams proudly excercise after a win. The winners of this year's cookoff were:
