It's the code word for a big week every summer at Millbrook Baptist Church. SPLASH (Show People Love And Share Him) is a way that Millbrook Baptist develops relationships with the community while working on local missions and providing fellowship opportunities.
SPLASH week got off to a great start Sunday night with an Independence Day Celebration. No, an Independence Day celebration doesn't have to be on the Fourth of July to be successful and fun. The Church held this one on Sunday night and a very large crowd showed up for a hot dog supper, music, volleyball, kids activities and of course, fireworks. A total of 280 hot dogs were cooked to go along with all the other goodies to eat. Pastor Mike Ingram was anticipating a crowd of 150-200. "It's all about our missions in Millbrook," Ingram said. "This week we have a group of local projects to work on and we wrap it up into one big project. This is the fifth year we have done SPLASH. In addition to serving the Lord and our fellow man the whole idea is geared toward getting kids involved in the church and introducing Millbrook Baptist to adults." SPLASH week included a special viewing of the Disney movie "Frozen" for families on Monday night. Throughout the week volunteers worked to clean up some local schools and a local cemetery. The week's activities also included a pair of off-site Vacation Bible Schools. This coming Saturday the Church will hold an appreciation breakfast for local firefighters.
Millbrook Baptist also shares the SPLASH week idea with a Church in Westerport, Maryland, known as the Bruce Outreach Center (BOC). That Church sent 16 members to assist Millbrook Baptist in its SPLASH week. Later this summer Millbrook Baptist will send a group up to Maryland to help that Church develop its new home, an old school the BOC purchased. "I met Mike a while back when he was in Maryland witnessing and we developed a great relationship. Now, we both feel at home when we visit each other's Church every summer and help each other," BOC Pastor Steffan Carr, said.
Millbrook is at the center of a recent opinion issued by Alabama Attorney General Luther Strange. In an official opinion, requested by Mayor Al Kelley, Strange affirmed that police arrest records, except in limited circumstances, are subject to public disclosure.Read more...
