Riley's influence showing in Chambliss - Commentary

It’s amazing to me how a candidate can run from something while he embraces it. Bob Riley and the BCA have been behind Clyde Chambliss’ bid for State Senate for a while. Chambliss is running against Harris Garner.

Riley and the Business Council of Alabama (BCA) are the biggest pushers of Common Core in Alabama, the despicable, Anti-American school standards that even has recommended reading that promotes homosexuality to ten year olds. The same Common Core that is pushed by President Obama. Of course Chambliss has flip-flopped on the issue and now says he is not in favor of Common Core even though his biggest contributor is the BCA. One can easily find the colossal BCA contributions to Chambliss on the Alabama Secretary of State’s website.

rileymailerNow Riley has entered the pictured even more. This week a couple of mailers were in the mailboxes of local citizens on Thursday. They never mentioned the name of Chambliss but they trashed Garner. All one needs to do is look at the return address and see the words, “Paid for by Alabama 2014 PAC.” And who is that? Bob Riley, that’s who. All one needs to do is a search on the Alabama Secretary of State website for the name Alabama 2014 PAC, and presto…the name of Robert Riley appears as chairman. Riley has spent over $1.3 million in this election cycle to elect those he needs to control the legislative agenda (again go to Secretary of State website).

Now Riley’s influence really shows when one looks at the Chambliss Facebook page and he (Chambliss) tries to denounce these mailers by saying, “Some of you received negative mail pieces today that were critical of my opponent. I want to be clear that I did not fund, solicit, or approve those ads. I pledged a clean campaign and I have run one. I am frustrated and disappointed that a third party inserted themselves into my race.”

Really? While Chambliss is denouncing Riley on his Facebook page (but never refers to him by name and one must wonder why) then he should explain to us just why he went along with Riley throwing him a fundraiser Wednesday in Alex City. The only one person that could come up with a bigger yarn is Riley himself.

While Chambliss says he does not run a negative campaign and he will not lie, one must wonder about the truth when he is in bed with the infamous Riley regime. Chambliss can say what he is for and against all he wants, but Riley and the BCA have their hooks deeply entrenched in him. And like others in the State House that have depended upon Riley’s regime there is no turning back…you will do as you are told to do.
