The American Legion Post 133 baseball team of Millbrook swept all opponents in the District Tournament over the weekend. The team knocked off Marion 5-1, Thorsby 3-1 and took the District Championship game defeating Bessemer 12-3.
Post 133 holds an impressive season record of 29- 4.
According to Post 133 coach Wade Atchley, the team has played excellent defensive baseball all summer. "We gave up only five runs in three games in the District and that is good baseball at any level. Whenever you keep the other guys off the scoreboard you greatly increase the probability of winning and our guys have done that all summer. Of course, good defensive baseball starts with good pitching and our pitching staff has been superb," Atchley explained. The starters for Post 133 are Christian Smith, Tanner Baumann, Zach Hahn, and Jarred Nixon. Austin Crossway is the team's closer.
Post 133 may not have set the world on fire at the plate this season but they get runs when they need to and they get what they must have in order to win. In the District Championship game against Bessemer Jake Sisson and Brian Todd Seymore both hit home runs and had multiple hits.
Post 133 heads to Troy University for the American Legion State Tournament that begins Thursday. This will be the sixth trip to the state event for Post 133 under Atchley as head coach.
