Teachers recall good times

More than thirty years worth of retired educators gathered at Smokehouse Barbeque last week for a tasty meal and a trip down memory lane.

By BRIAN HODGE

A large number of retired teachers and administrators from Stanhope Elmore High School recently gathered for a friendly informal lunch at Smokehouse Barbeque Grill in Millbrook.
Some of those in attendance including Frances Stokes and “Coach” Conrad Henderson were part of the first staff that served at the school.
Stokes said that during her time as a biology teacher at Stanhope Elmore she has taught a “cast of characters” including Millbrook Mayor Al Kelley.
“I never thought he would have amounted to anything,” Stokes said jokingly about Kelley, “but look at him now. He’s the best mayor we’ve ever had.”
Stokes explained that the meal provided a relaxed, informal environment for the educators to see some old friends and reminisce about days gone by at SEHS.
Four former principals from the school were present at the gathering. They were: Butch Earnest, Jackie Davis, Fred Dickerson and Conrad Henderson.
