Over the Edge in downtown Montgomery

By BRIAN HODGE – News Editor

A unique fund raising idea literally left a lot of people hanging over the weekend as Hope Inspired Ministries brought Montgomery Over the Edge. Edgers, as the participants are called, represented individual or fundraising team efforts at $1,000 per edger. For that they were strapped into safety harnesses and then sent over the edge of the 40 Four building in downtown Montgomery. As they rappelled down 110 feet to the ground the edgers were treated to a view that was anything but dull. Friday was reserved for VIPs and local media types. Even Big Mo, the Montgomery Biscuits’ doughy mascot, got in on the action. Hope Inspired Ministries (HIM) is a faith-based, local non-profit designed to train chronically unemployed men and women to obtain and maintain employment. Through a rigorous 11-week job training program, each student participates in over 400 hours of training which includes life skills, employment skills, unpaid internships with local businesses, and GED preparation. During week 11, we conclude the course with a cap and gown graduation where every student offers a 3-5 minute speech regarding lessons learned in the course.
